We are privileged to have two expert Fencing Masters: Kate and Martin Brill
Kate Brill, is a French trained Maitre d'Armes (coach). She was twice the New Zealand Olympic Fencing Coach and produced New Zealand's only Olympic Men's Epee Finalist. She was coach of the New Zealand Youth Olympics Team 2009 (Bronze medal Women's Epee Teams). Kate represents New Zealand internationally in the past in women's foil and currently in women's epee. She was 12th in the 1989 World Cup women's event, Welkenrad. Kate also won French National Circuit Women's Epee events and French National Club Team title in 1989. Recently, Kate won the Gold medal at the Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships in Canberra 2018 in the Women's Veteran's Epee 60+ and was 6th place overall. Her current national ranking in Women's epee is 5th. Kate provides training in foil, epee and sabre. Kate's aim as a coach is for fencers to enjoy the sport while fully developing their skills.
Martin Brill has a wealth of fencing experience, skill, knowledge and mastery in support of members ready to learn, develop and improve their fencing skill and ability in Epee, Foil and Sabre. As well as being qualified to coach fencers, at all ages and stages, Martin is also an active Fencing Coach Developer. Martin completed 2 years of studies under the French Fencing Masters (Maitre d'Armes) in Epee, Foil and Sabre at the French National Institute of Sport and Physical Education. He qualified and joined the ranks of Fencing Masters. He coached at the Levallois Sporting Club, being one of their foundation Fencing Masters. This premier fencing club is now the largest in France. As a New Zealand fencer Martin Brill is a six times New Zealand National Epee Champion, Oceanic Zone Champion, had a Men's Epee World ranking of 23rd and is a double Olympian (NZ Olympian #411). He competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics (Men's Epee placed 15th), then also competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics placing 7th, where he received the International Olympic Committee Diploma for Excellence in Sport. Martin has also been an Olympic Team Fencing Coach at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, in Support of New Zealand Olympic fencer Gavin McLean.
